- Abstract
Gallbladder perforation is a rare but life-threatening complication of acute cholecystitis. A rapid diagnostic work-up helps in identifying the type of gallbladder perforation. All these measures help in deciding the most effective means of management. We reported a case of an elderly man, who had co-morbidities. He presented an intrahepatic perforation of the gall bladder (GB) and a liver abscess. The patient was managed initially by performing a percutaneous image-guided drainage of the abscess. Then, we performed an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and an extraction of the common bile duct stone. The patient underwent a successful open cholecystectomy after stabilization. The GB perforation and a liver abscess were detected in an elderly patient with co-morbidities. Initially, this condition can be managed conservatively by performing a percutaneous drainage of the abscess. Thus, this technique acts as a bridge to surgery.
