- Abstract
Thus far, in classroom studies on Snoezelen education on children enrolled in ordinary classes there has been no reported research on its contribution to improving academic abilities. Therefore, this study focused on a single normal child in ordinary classes at an elementary school in studies involving solving arithmetic word problems, which was a weak point of his, in scenarios involving both an ordinary environment and a Snoezelen environment in which the rooms lighting was dimmed and a combination of black lights and handmade fluorescent lighting materials were used. From the results, a slight improvement was seen with the Snoezelen environment compared to the ordinary environment regarding the rate at which the child answered correctly. On the other hand, with respect to their concentration time this increased substantially to a significant degree with the Snoezelen environment compared to the ordinary environment (p<.05). Therefore, this presumably indicates the efficacy of lessons conducted in a Snoezelen environment through the use of black lights and fluorescent teaching materials to boost the ability of the subject children to concentrate. These results suggested that studying in a Snoezelen environment could potentially boost the ability of the subject children to concentrate on their studies for those children enrolled in ordinary classes in the future.
