- Title
EGYPT – EU: Funding Package.
- Abstract
The European Union and Egypt have signed a €7.4 billion financial package aimed at supporting Egypt's economy, increasing energy sales to Europe, and addressing irregular migration. The deal includes billions in credit, investment, and bilateral projects, with a focus on energy and migration. The agreement also includes steps to cooperate on security, counter-terrorism, and border protection. However, the EU's cash-for-migration-control approach has been criticized by human rights groups for strengthening authoritarian rulers and betraying human rights defenders. Egypt, facing a severe economic crisis, is in dire need of financial assistance due to rapid inflation and a high external debt.
