- Abstract
Objective To understand the characteristics of men who have sex with men (MSM) entering the community, we analyze the related factors of their age of entering MSM community (hereinafter referred to as community). Methods The "snowball" sampling method was used to carry out questionnaires and serological tests on the correlated characteristics of MSM entering community in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, χ2 test and Logistic regression model were used to analyze the univariate and multivariate analysis of age-related factors of community entry. Results There were 1 119 valid questionnaires, the median age of entering the community was 19.0 (17.0, 21.0) years, 87.9% before marriage and 12.1% after marriage. The reason for entering the community was congenital 76.7% and curiosity 12.7%. The reasons for entering the community were different at different times (P<0.001), before marriage, 83.9% were born, and after marriage, 56.3% were born out of curiosity. In MSM, positive rate of syphilis in the older age group (≥median) was higher than that in the younger age group (<median) (P=0.044). Multivariate analysis showed that the older, married, cadre, workers and others, those who not aware of AIDS knowledge, not receiving prevention services, not diagnosed with STDS in the last 1 year, no encountered sexual partners in past 6 months, and had unprotected anal sex behavior in past 6 months entered the community at a older age. And those who seek sexual partners mainly by the Internet entered the community at a younger age (P<0.05). Conclusions MSM in Mianyang City enters the community at a younger age, which is related to demographic characteristics, prevention services and sexual behavior. Different ages of entering the community have both positive and negative impacts on AIDS prevention and treatment. Behavioral intervention should be targeted.
