- Abstract
Potassium is the second most absorbed macronutrient by plants, which may limit the response of forage production, especially those with higher nutritional requirements. The objective was to identify the adequate potassium dose for the development of Megathyrsus maximus cultivars (Zuri, Tamani, Massai, and Mombaça). The work was carried out at the Federal University of Norte do Tocantins, Campus de Araguaína, from October 2018 to June 2019. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design in a 4x4 factorial scheme, with four replications. The first factor consisted of four Megathyrsus maximus cultivars (Mombaça, Tamani, Massai and Zuri) and the second factor four potassium doses (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1), totaling 64 experimental units. The following variables were evaluated: plant height, number of tillers, total dry mass, dry mass of leaves, dry mass of stems, dead material and leaf area index. Potassium influences the productivity of Megathyrsus maximus cultivars, and based on the results, the maximum recommended dose of K2O for Massai grass is 82 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 for Mombaça grass, 72 kg ha-1 for the Zuri grass, and 81 kg ha-1 for the Tamani grass.
