- Abstract
The article discusses research wherein it was established what effects the addition of nitrification inhibitors or urease activity inhibitors could have on gaseous emissions from grasslands. It was found that the addition of 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) or N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) to fertilizers could curb the amount of gaseous losses to the atmosphere. The researchers discovered that when soil water content was high, NBPT applied to soil with slurry would reduce losses. When soil water content was low, both inhibitors reduced the emission of nitrogen oxide. Neither inhibitor appeared to affect grassland yield.
