- Abstract
The article discusses the September 1797 mutiny aboard the British Royal Navy warship HMS Hermione. It discusses the historiography of the frigate's mutiny and asserts that the event is best understood in light of the mutinous Atlantic age of revolution of the 1790s. Other subjects considered include the transnational makeup of sailors and seafaring life during the period, the leadership of Hermione's commander Hugh Pigot, and an overview of similar unrest amid the Navies of France, Batavia, Great Britain during the period.
