- Abstract
Objective: To characterize the patient safety culture in maternity hospitals and the instruments and methods used based on the literature. Method: An integrative review with a qualitative approach, after searching Medline databases via Pubmed, Embase and VHL, 11 studies were selected to compose this review. Results: The main tools used to measure the Patient Safety Culture were the validated instrument HSOPSC, the SAQ, and a study with an open interview to compose the qualitative data. It was possible to assess that of the eleven studies, nine identified in their results a safety culture with negative or neutral aspects in most of its domains, according to their analysis instruments. The most important points identified by the studies, with a negative factor that require improvements were: the high workload and working conditions; perception and relationship with management; non-punitive responses to errors; reporting adverse events; security climate; stress perception; internal transfers and shift change and communication. Final considerations: It is evident that these services still have a timid and punitive culture, in addition to requiring interventions to train professionals to improve care and the work environment, producing improvements in the patient safety culture.
