- Abstract
Objective: To identify in the literature the implications of photodynamic therapy on tissue progress and infectious infiltration of foot wounds in people with diabetes mellitus. Method: This is a systematic review carried out between January and April 2020, in the databases PubMed, SciELO, Cochrane, BDENF and LILACS, using the DECs descriptors: "Photodynamic Therapy" and "Diabetic foot" and MeSH: " Photodynamic therapy "and" Diabetic foot ". Five articles were included that met the eligibility criteria. Results: From the analysis of the results, it was observed that the studies conducted with photodynamic therapy on infected wounds on the feet of people with diabetes mellitus obtained statistically significant differences in terms of progress in tissue repair, which permeated significant success in reducing need for lower limb amputation. There was a statistically significant reduction in the infectious infiltrate of the wounds, assisting with the progress in tissue repair. Conclusion: Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy boosts significant differences in the tissue progression of foot wounds in people with diabetes mellitus, by means of a statistically significant reduction in the infectious infiltrate after therapy.
