- Abstract
For proper irrigation management, soil moisture knowledge is of paramount importance to determine the time and proper amount of water to be applied on crops, among the techniques of determining soil moisture, the TDR has been highlighted by be nondestructive and fast. The objective of this work TDR probe calibration on a Red Yellow Latosol cultivated with coffee Conilon to, check their effective in determining soil moisture. The experiment was conducted in three areas where pipes were arranged in six points in relation to the plant, being a point in the planting line between two plants and five points in leading (0.10, 0.40, 0.70, 1, 10 and 1.50 m from the plant), and four depths (0.00 to 0.20; 0.20-0.40; 0.40-0.60 and 0.60-0.80 m) with three. Soil moisture obtained by TDR technique were adjusted by regression to the standard oven method for all areas and depths. For this adjustment were used 50 undisturbed samples. TDR model used has its applicability in the field, made possible with an excellent fit and low errors in estimating soil moisture for the soil studied. The depths studied did not affect the performance of TDR, showing its effective for monitoring soil water in different layers. Estimates of soil moisture had lower performance and higher error in clayey, but did not invalidate the readings by TDR technique.
