- Title
ONS Health Policy Advocacy Extends Beyond Capitol Hill and the Legislative Arena.
- Authors
Halpern, Ilisa M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the efforts of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) which reach beyond Capitol Hill to include regulatory activities, the processes and oversight related to the implementation of federal laws and programs. To that end, ONS closely monitors the activities of various federal agencies and regularly weighs in on agency rule-making proposals relating to issues, programs, and policies affecting nursing and people with cancer. In January 2005, ONS joined the Partners for Effective Tobacco Control coalition in sending a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to voice support for the agency's proposal to cover tobacco cessation counseling services.
