- Title
CONFRONTING JEWISH SOUTH AFRICAN IDENTITY AFTER 2000: TRENDS IN CONTEMPORARY SA JEWISH NOVELS.
- Authors
Leveson, Marcia
- Abstract
The article discusses the adverse impact of the emigration of the Jewish population from South Africa to other countries in the world, particularly to Australia and Israel. It cites the opinion of Rahla Xeneopolous concerning the situation in her book, "A Memoir of Love and Madness." It examines the writings of Jewish writers during the Second World War, wherein it was observed that many Jewish writers avoid the use of identifiable "Jewish" contents in their writings due to threats from the alleged antisemitism of the government. Several Jewish writings are also cited, including "Rings in a Tree," by Maja Kriel.
