- Abstract
The article investigates the noncanonical uses of Russian imperatives and the ways in which they express modality. It examines Russian constructions in which the imperative conveys a broader range of meanings and provides an in-depth formal analysis of imperative constructions. It compares the group of imperatives that express a conditional meaning to their apparent English and Russian equivalents that have a conditional sense but cannot be considered conditionals.
