- Title
CrossTalk opposing view: De novo capillary recruitment in healthy muscle is not necessary to explain physiological outcomes.
- Authors
Poole, David C.
- Abstract
The author examines the validity of the de novo capillary recruitment model in healthy muscle. He mentions data that show capillaries as having collagenous struts and supportive of red blood cell and or plasma flux at rest and during contractions. He observes that muscle oxygen uptake increases without delay in the absence of de novo capillary recruitment. The author argues that capillary recruitment is not requisite for explaining physiological behavior.
