- Abstract
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of anterior subcutaneous transposition of ulnar nerve among the patients presenting with idiopathic compression ulnar neuropathy. Study design: Descriptive case series study. Place and duration of study: Department of Orthopaedics, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Patients and Methods: A total of 93 patients were observed. All patients were subjected to anterior subcutaneous transposition of ulnar nerve under general anesthesia. All the surgical procedures were performed by single experienced orthopaedic surgeon. All patients were followed up at the end of 1 month to determine intervention effectiveness in terms of both reduction of pain by at least 2 grades from baseline and improvement in MRC grading by at least 2 grades from baseline at presentation. Results: A total of 93 patients with idiopathic compression ulnar neuropathy were observed, in which male to female ratio was 2.72:1. Average age was 43.84 years + 1.07SD. Efficacy of anterior subcutaneous transposition of ulnar nerve in the treatment of idiopathic compression ulnar neuropathy was 56(60.22%) while in 37(39.78%) were found non-effective results. Conclusion: Anterior subcutaneous transposition of ulnar nerve is the effective procedure for the treatment of idiopathic compression ulnar neuropathy.
