- Abstract
The article explores the science of early puberty, particularly what is seen as the premature development of young girls. The author suggests that interventions in these cases suppresses nonnormative sexualities. Other topics include the medical interventions given to Ashley X, a developmentally disabled child given hormonal treatment and a mastectomy after she began going through puberty at 6, the history of research on puberty and links between early puberty and psychological problems.
