- Abstract
Introduction: Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai are individual fight sports that require of yours participants good flexibility and muscle stretching in order to allow the movements to be biomechanically more correct and effective. On the other hand, by constant contact and excessive training, they can generate lesions and musculoskeletal symptoms. Goals: To compare the flexibility and the osteomuscular symptoms in Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai practice in one academy in the city Goiânia, Goiás. Methods: It was about an analytic comparative transversal study in which the flexibility and musculoskeletal symptoms of 47 fighters were evaluate, divided into 2 groups; Jiu Jitsu (n = 26) and Muay Thai (n = 21), by the Sit and Reach Test at the Wells Bank and the Nordic Osteomuscular Symptoms Questionnaire (QNSO), respectively. Results: The study groups were homogeneous in relation to age, weight, height and body mass index. We find more years dedicated to the fight, more weekly attendance and daily training in Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Flexibility was good to excellent in both groups, with the Muay Thai group presenting higher values, although there was no significant difference (p=0.76). Osteomuscular symptoms were more frequently reported in the Jiu Jitsu group, however without significant difference (p = 0.19). Conclusion: No statistically significant difference was found in the flexibility and musculoskeletal symptoms reported among Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai practitioners studied.
