The article considers references to police in the writings of English author George Orwell, pen name for Eric Blair, including his first work "Burmese Days," his account of his participation in the Spanish Civil War "Homage to Catalonia," to his final novel "Nineteen Eighty-four." It considers his experiences as a British police officer in Burma, his encounters with Spanish police during the Civil War, and popular opinions regarding police in Great Britain.
