- Abstract
This article delves into the topic of sexuality and self-knowledge within the realm of Outsider Art, which encompasses creative expressions that arise from personal and intimate motivations, often outside of traditional art systems. Specifically focusing on individuals with disabilities, who face discrimination and obstacles in expressing their sexuality, the article seeks to identify, describe, and comprehend the diverse aspects and manifestations of sexuality in disabled adults through their artwork. It also examines the historical representation of sexuality in art and the challenges faced by disabled individuals in reclaiming their own sexuality. The text explores how individuals with disabilities and mental illnesses use art as a means of self-expression and exploration of their desires, emphasizing the importance of understanding and accepting their sexual expressions to foster social inclusion and relationships. The work of artists like Fátima Calderón and Aloïse Corbraz is highlighted, showcasing their unique perspectives on sexuality in their artwork. The authors argue that approaching the art of disabled individuals from a contextual standpoint is crucial in promoting understanding and reducing social divisions.
