- Abstract
In her habilitation thesis, Isabelle Deflers examines the role of Prussia in the debates on monarchy reforms in France in the second half of the 18th century. She concludes that Prussia served as a projection surface for the problems and questions that French philosophers and statesmen were confronted with. However, there was no clear model effect of Prussia, although there was a genuine transfer of knowledge in the military field. The image of Prussia in France was diverse and ambivalent, and it was primarily focused on Frederick the Great. The ideal image of Prussia as a tolerant Enlightenment state was not widely spread in the French public.
