- Abstract
To analyze the social determinants of congenital syphilis in a referral hospital in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Case-control study, carried out in the Rooming-in. Fifty participants were included in the case group and 200 in the control group, totaling 250 postpartum women. Odds Ratio calculations were performed with their respective 95% Confidence Intervals, as well as Pearson's chi-square test of association. There was a statistical association between congenital syphilis and the following social determinants: age group, race, smoking, alcohol consumption, use of illicit drugs, marital status, sexarche, number of partners in the year, previous history of sexually transmitted infection, change of domicile frequency, sexual violence, family income, number of consultations and gestational age at the beginning of prenatal care, carrying out a diagnostic test for syphilis and educational guidance on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Social determinants, especially those associated with the individual and behavioral dimension, influence the occurrence of congenital syphilis.
