- Title
SOME EVIDENCE ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF QUALIFIED MANPOWER IN BRITAIN: A NOTE.

- Abstract
The article tries to estimate marginal product of highly qualified manpower by using a traditional neo-classical production function. Attempts to provide evidence on the changing productivity of qualified scientists and engineers in Great Britain have been made. The specification of the production function was designed to answer two questions, first, whether the highly qualified made a significant contribution to production at the margin; second, whether this contribution has altered with the passage of time. Highly qualified manpower is employed in current production activities, but it is usually the case that by far the greatest proportion of such manpower is to be found in areas such as research and development, sales and management where its contribution is to the dynamic performance of the firm. Estimation of a current period production function should indicate that current contribution of manpower to output is zero and yet it would be highly misleading to argue that the marginal product of their efforts is zero in a dynamic sense.
