- Title
Zum Gräberfeld von Schirndorf: ein Beitrag zur Chronologie der Hallstattzeit Nordostbayerns.
- Authors
Müller-Scheeßel, Nils
- Abstract
The cemetery of Schirndorf represents one of the few almost fully excavated necropolises of the Hallstatt period in Southern Germany; the publications of A. Stroh and R. Hughes have been exemplary in making it accessible to research. The present article introduces the six volumes and assesses the findings. In particular, a new computeraided analysis of Hughes's ceramic seriation has been performed. As a result, the Schirndorf graves may be chronologically divided into four groups. Comparison with the types of metal found in the graves enables the transition from the Early to the Late Hallstatt period to be localized within the fourth group. A comparison with chronological systems of bordering regions concludes the article.
