- Abstract
The Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) instruments are used for testing various devices and their functionality in the microwave domain by S - parameters usage. As the mobile communications technology has become incredibly advanced in a short amount of time, the VNA has evolved as speed of measurement, costs, facilities and performances. In this paper, a comprehensive study about VNA measurement speed is presented using two connection types. At the beginning, all factors involved in microwave measurement speed are analyzed. The VNA measurement needs to be analyzed and stored in a special format for further decisions regarding the DUT (Device Under Test). The monitoring application is resident on a PC, where SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) is used to interact with the VNA. The communication between user and the instrument is possible thanks to the developed application that runs on the PC. In this paper, a new prototype configuration is proposed to reduce the costs and the dimension of the current configuration. The PC used to communicate with the VNA is replaced in this paper with a Raspberry PI. This work describes the designing and implementing tasks for a Raspberry PI - VNA communication application, also proposing a solution for acquiring data processing. The developed application was implemented in QT environment. The results show the advantages of replacing a standard PC with a Raspberry PI for the microwave monitoring and control system and highlights the current shortcoming of the speed measurement. At the end of this work, it is presenting a future work concerning reducing the time for a microwave measurement in an extended frequency range.
