- Abstract
Sepsis and septic shock have recently been redefined. Sepsis results when the host response becomes dysregulated. The term 'severe sepsis' is no longer in use. Septic shock is sepsis with a high mortality. In contrast to adults, two thirds of children present in 'cold shock'. Give antibiotics within 1 hour of diagnosis. Traditional fluid resuscitation in septic children has recently been challenged by the FEAST trial.
