- Title
"AM I NOT THE ONE...?" (SOPHOKLES' PHIL. 114): NEOPTOLEMOS AND THE ALLURE OF KLEOS.
- Authors
Allan, Arlene L.
- Abstract
The article offers criticism on the play "Philoktetes," by ancient Greek author Sophokles. The author focuses on the character Neoptolemos and suggests that the idea of "kleos" influences his behavior in his attempts to rescue the character of Philoktetes. Other topics include Neoptolemos's competition with the character of Odysseus, how information in the play's prologue aids in the assessment of the characters' behavior, and the role of friendship in the play.
