- Abstract
The "Woman Question" in the 19th century England has been reflected through woman's social and individual life in the novels of the period, especially in the works of the women novelists. Among these novels is Villette, written by Charlotte Brontë who herself experienced similar questions both as a woman and a woman novelist. Villette depicts the woman question through its heroine Lucy Snowe, putting emphasis on love and marriage, emotional and economic freedom and male and female relationships
