- Abstract
In an attempt to study the optimum level of incorporation of herb i.e. Withania somnifera as feed additive in the ration of broilers and to assess the effect of feeding Withania somnifera and enzyme alone and in combination on dry matter digestibility and nitrogen balance of broiler chicks, a feeding trial of six weeks followed by metabolic trial was conducted, using 300 broiler chicks (Cob-400 strain) randomly distributed in completely randomized block design. The five treatments were designated as T1 control group (without herb), T2 having 0.5% Withania somnifera, T3 having 1.0% Withania somnifera, T4 having 1.5% Withania somnifera, and T5 having 2.0% Withania somnifera. All the treatment groups were further subdivided in two sub groups namely E1 without enzyme mix supplementation and E2 with enzyme mix supplementation @ 0.05%. The dry matter digestibility and nitrogen balance were recorded for all treatment groups and in respect of effect of enzyme. Significant effect of dietary treatments i.e. incorporation of Withania somnifera at different levels and enzyme on dry matter digestibility and nitrogen balance were observed.
