- Title
Nanobiotechnology: Checking out the insides of cells.
- Authors
Lee, Yong-Eun Koo; Kopelman, Raoul
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study by Peidong Yang et al published in "Nature Nanotechnology" which reported that a nanowire waveguide attached to a tapered optical fibre can guide light into specific compartments within cells in a non-invasive way as well as track the movement of fuorescent species there. Morever, the researchers noted that this nanoscale endoscope can deliver payloads such as quantum dots into the cells. The potential use of the endoscope in research laboratories is also cited.
