- Abstract
This article discusses the development of a potential treatment for shrimp allergy using hypoallergenic chimeric virus-like particles (VLPs). The VLPs were designed to display the major shrimp allergen, Pen m 1, and were shown to elicit blocking IgG antibody responses. The VLPs exhibited reduced allergenicity compared to the soluble form of Pen m 1 and induced a Th1-biased immune response in mice. Further research is needed to investigate the reactogenicity and therapeutic capacity of the VLPs in animal models of shrimp allergy. The study was funded by various organizations and the authors declare no conflict of interest.
