- Title
Sprawl in Europe and America.
- Authors
Lewyn, Michael
- Abstract
The article compares Western Europe to the U.S. in terms of sprawl, an automobile-oriented development. It was found that European nations sprawl less than the states as Europe is far less automobile dependent. As compared to Americans, Europeans are more fond in walking, biking, and using public transit. Sprawl has been limited in the affluent societies of Western Europe. The extent that European cities have sprawled into the countryside is considered as a result of pro-sprawl government policies rather than an inevitable result of affluence.
