- Abstract
The article explores the importance of central queues called liquidity-saving mechanisms (LSMs) in ensuring the safety and efficiency of interbank payment systems. It discusses the augmentation of real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems with LSMs, which have the ability of improving on a vanilla RTGS system. Also examined is how the systems may suffer from inefficient liquidity when banks fail to realise the benefits of liquidity acquisition.
