Civil Liability and Economic Development.
- Authors
Shaw, Joshua D.
- Abstract
The article reports how the reforms carried out by the government of South Carolina to its civil liability in 2005 impact economic development in the country. The author explores the ruling made by the state's Supreme Court to the lawsuit between Colleton Preparatory Academy Inc. and Hoover Universal Inc. which allows consumers to sue manufacturers for defective products eventhough they did not bring damage or injury. It reveals that the decision reverses the state's product liability legislation and poses challenges in enhancing the compamies' products and building relationship with foreign businesses.
