- Title
Functional Neurological Disorders: Challenging the Mainstream Agnostic Causative Position.
- Authors
Scamvougeras, Anton; Castle, David
- Abstract
This article challenges the mainstream view on functional neurological disorders (FND) by arguing that psychological factors play a significant role in their causation. It criticizes the agnostic stance adopted by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5), which fails to acknowledge the importance of psychological mechanisms in FND. The document emphasizes the need for respect and resources for individuals suffering from these disorders and calls for a psychological/psychiatric engine model to better understand and treat FND. Additionally, a list of references and citations related to FND is provided, offering various perspectives and approaches to the topic.
