- Abstract
Objective: to characterize the profile of the severe traumatic brain injury victims and to identify its nursing diagnoses. Method: this is an exploratory study developed in the Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital in Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil, which is a reference for the care of trauma victims in the State. The data collection period was from October 2007 to November 2007, with 18 victims of traumatic brain injury, after the approval of the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Sergipe, under the number CAAE-0068.0.107.380-05. For the identification of Nursing Diagnoses, it was utilized the NANDA. Results: the severe traumatic brain injury victims (n=18) were mostly men (77.8%), aged between 16 and 45 years-old (72.2%), who suffered transport accidents trauma (55.6%), on public roads (64.7%) and were submitted to surgical treatment. It was identified a total of 25 Nursing Diagnoses, which were 72% real and 28% of risk. The Nursing Diagnoses were gathered in dominions and categories. The dominions which presented the highest quantitative of Nursing Diagnoses were the dominion 4-activity\rest and dominion 11-safety/rest. Conclusion: the identification of nursing diagnoses through the NANDA taxonomy contributed to the identification of nursing problems presented by traumatic brain injury victims, with a view to an individualized nursing care. It is suggested new studies in order to enhance the data found in this research.
