- Abstract
Modern education, at the present stage requires the education of responsible persons, disciplined and prepared for cooperation, and the establishment of relations of concern and care between participants in the educational process. Discipline at school is a guarantee of long-term results, not of short-term solutions as tools for decision-making. One of the fundamental reasons for discipline problems at school is that „the emphasis in the classroom is placed on remaining still and calm, keeping quiet, all students moving and standing in the same manner and thus simulating mechanically intellectual interest. It is the job of teachers to make sure that students comply with these requirements and to punish the inevitable deviations from the norm” (Dewey, 1916). According to Comenius, blows and kicks cannot inspire love and reverence for any science, but would, in turn breed hatred and genuine disgust (Comenius, 1905). The conclusion he reaches is that one cannot become one unless one learns to be disciplined. The disciplining methods that help to bring about a normal educational process are beyond the strict punitive measures that perform a traumatic psychological function - these are encouragement and rewards. The reward is a way to encourage diligent, conscientious, motivated students who display acceptable, decent and respectful behavior. Prizes are one of the most important means of upbringing, as children are aware of and self-assess their school-based efforts and are thus valued. This supports the personal development of children and students, and is encouraged by moral and material rewards for their excellence in the educational field. This method also helps to build a positive organizational climate and affirms positive discipline, which is a prerequisite for the cohesion of the school community. In the search for a balance between stimulating manifestations, it is important to implement an adaptive strategy involving both parents and teachers, which „aims at building qualities such as discipline, adaptation to the requirements of being adults“ (Milenkova, 2015: 129), as well as events that express the creatively active relevance of the training. The role of education should not be to command and control the people involved, but should be climate control, creating conditions for the realization of students' motivation.
