- Authors
NIEKISCH, MANFRED
- Abstract
With his Inventaire Général de l’Indochine. La Faune de l’Indochine. Vertébrés (1927) RENÉ BOURRET provided the first extensive overview over the vertebrates of Indochina. He had a personal copy of this book bound in a special manner, interleaved, and made many corrections, additions, and amendments therein over at least 14 years. It is interesting to note that RENÉ BOURRET believed, based on a publication by CHABANAUD (1923) at some stage, as can be seen from his handwritten comments, that Chamaeleonidae occur in Indochina, but corrected this opinion later. From personal talks of the author of this article with the professors ĐÀO VĂN TIẾN and VÕ QUÝ some anecdotal information is reported on the giant softshell turtles of Hanoi (today Rafetus swinhoei) and why Bourrets works are so scarce. Furthermore, the differences between the two editions of the „Serpents marins de l‘Indochine“ and the „Batraciens de l‘Indochine“.are presented. an order form for the “Serpents de l‘Indochine” allows insight into the distribution of this work.
