- Abstract
The book "The Witches and the Countess. Witch Hunt in Épila and Almonacid and the Witches of Trasmoz" by Carlos Garcés Manau narrates the persecution of witches in the county of Aranda, in Aragon, between 1629 and 1651. The author highlights the importance of studying seigneurial justice, represented by the Count of Aranda, in the witch hunt in Épila and Almonacid. The book also tells the story of the Ximénez de Urrea family, counts of Aranda since 1488. The author analyzes the preserved judicial processes and describes the torture methods used in interrogations. The article mentions several cases of witchcraft in the county of Aranda during the 17th and 19th centuries, including the cases of Isabel Felipe, Ana Marco, María Jaime, María Vizcarreta, and Aunt Casca. Although the book presents some disorder in the narrative, it provides an interesting summary of the judicial cases related to witch hunting in Spain.
