- Abstract
This document is a summary of a PhD thesis titled "Significance of transorbital ultrasound and thyroid hormones in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus." The study aimed to investigate new diagnostic methods and endocrine factors that influence the medium-term outcome after surgery for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). The study found that transorbital ultrasound can be used as a tool for screening and follow-up after surgery for iNPH. It also discovered that thyroid hormone levels before surgery have a prognostic value in assessing the quality of life of patients with iNPH after ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. The study concluded that overall, the quality of life improved in 60% of iNPH patients after surgery, and the change was significantly linked to physical and social domains.
