- Abstract
Aim: To present the preliminary report of the implementation of a pharmacotherapeutic follow-up (PF) program designed to improve the adherence of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) using the Dáder methodology. Methods: prospective cross-sectional study in subjects ≥ 18 years with NCDs in 3 cities from Colombia. Data on the use of medications were collected through a virtual survey. The Dáder methodology was used, and the drug-related problems (DRP) and negative outcomes associated with medication (NOM) were classified according to the Granada Third Consensus. Additionally, adherence was assessed using The Medication Adherence Questionnaire (SMAQ) and the STOPP-START criteria were evaluated among the elder adults. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and the association between adherence and gender or age by Pearson's chisquared test was evaluated. Results: One hundred twelve subjects were evaluated with a predominance of female gender (72.3%) and mean age of 60.2 ± 10.9. The most encountered diagnoses were hypertension (58.9%) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (36.6%). Median number of medications per patient was 5 whit the interquartile range (IQR) 3-7. Non-adherence was identified in 7.25% and the main reason was attributable to the patient by 90%. No association between adherence and gender or age group was identified. Fifty-one DRP and 51 NOM were found with proposals to solve them. Conclusion: The evaluation of pharmacological adherence through PF programs shows utility in the management of patients with NCDs.
