- Abstract
The article focuses on the missionary works and challenges faced by Baptist preachers Lee and Susan Compere with Creek Indians in Alabama. They ignored opposition of Creeks to Christian evangelism and taught the religion to small communities in the Creek Nation. Lee was charged to be involved in the murder of Creek faction leader William McIntosh after he opposed the Treaty of Indian Springs that sells Creek lands to the government. They left the Creek Nation to Montgomery after their slave students were tortured by opposing Creeks.
