- Title
"A too curious secrecie": Wroth's Pastoral Song and "Urania".
- Authors
BELL, ILONA
- Abstract
The article discusses the ways in which English poet Mary Wroth secretly wrote about her love affair with her cousin William Herbert, with focus given to her pastoral poem "Song 1" from the sonnet sequence "Pamphilia to Amphilanthus." The author does this by comparing character names in the sequence and Wroth's romantic prose work "The Countess of Montogomery's Urania." Also examined is Herbert's poem "Can you suspect a change in me."
