- Abstract
Nonetheless, there are a reported 1.6%-4.5% of positive TAB results (including those with multinuclear giant cells) in patients with non-GCA diagnoses of PAN, GPA, EGPA and rheumatoid vasculitis.[[4]] Some of these patients were reportedly misdiagnosed with GCA due to TAB findings and their diagnosis was revised when systemic symptoms persisted despite corticosteroid therapy.[4] Patients with scleritis in combination with cephalic symptoms suggestive of GCA, should arouse suspicion of alternate vasculitides.
