- Abstract
The article cites a study which presents screening of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., broodstock for the presence of Renibacterium salmoninarum, the causative agent of bacterial kidney disease (BKD), by indirect fluorescent antibody testing. To monitor the level of BKD in Atlantic salmon broodstocks before spawning, a standard prescreening programme was introduced to the industry. This programme was intended to assist fish farmers in determining the number of extra broodfish to keep on site to ensure a sufficient number of test-negative broodfish.
