- Title
REPORT OF THE DELEGATE TO THE AMERICAN DOCUMENTATION INSTITUTE.
- Abstract
This article presents information on the report of the Delegate of the American Sociological Society to the American Documentation Institute as of February 1, 1942. Biblioflim Service, the microfilm copying of scientific material, formerly operated by the American Documentation Institute, has been taken over by the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the past year. The Institute is cooperating in this service by loaning equipment and supplying microfilm and photoprint copies outside the Library of the Department of Agriculture. An important simplification in the service is the establishment of a flat rate of 40 cents for the microfilming of periodical articles of any length. The rate for copying from hooks is 40 cents for each 50 pages or fraction thereof. An attempt is being made to have these or standard rates adopted by libraries cooperating with the service throughout the U.S. The Institute is now giving its attention to the auxiliary publication through microfilm, copying sets of journals in microfilm, and other activities of service to the scientific and scholarly world. Auxiliary publication enables an author to publish a much longer report than may be acceptable or published by journal editors. The procedure consists in the submission of the detailed manuscript including graphs, tables, or photographic material to a Journal editor.
