The article discusses experimental work on brown trout, Salmo trutta, with a focus on the defence of salmonid fish against zoospores of the Saprolegnia fungus. Topics include the cellular response in the fishes' external mucus, fishes' morphological response to defend against the fungal infection, and a study of diseased fish in Windermere Lake in England.
