- Abstract
The article informs that in December, 2018 the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse have awarded researchers at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy a 3.5-million dollar, two-year grant. The aim of the grants to help people to study therapeutic and abuse potential of alkaloids from leaves of Southeast Asian tree kratom. It notes that this species is a tropical evergreen tree that can grow to 25 meters tall and whose broad leaves produce compounds with opioid-like effects.
