- Title
Phoresy or an accident? Trafficking of flower‐feeding thrips by pollen‐foraging bees.
- Authors
Kabir, Mosammed T.; Snow, Jonathan W.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study that examined the possible transport of flower-feeding thrips on honey bee-collected pollen through phoresy, an interspecific interaction by which one organism moves by attaching itself to a host organism. It describes the method used by the researchers to determine the species identity of the thrips specimen they used. It also explains the probable role of associations between thrips and honey bees in the spread of tospoviruses that destroy various plant species.
