The article focuses on harvesting of wild ginseng has sustained Appalachian communities for generations and market value of ginseng fluctuating rapidly. It mentions ginseng is an unassuming herbaceous perennial with several palm-sized spreads of three to five leaflets. It also mentions roots are then certified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, shipped to Hong Kong, and from there distributed across China and South Korea.
