- Title
When 2 + 2 = 5: Can we begin to think about unexplained religious experiences in ways that acknowledge their existence?
- Authors
Orsi, Robert A.
- Abstract
This article describes the religious practices of 20th-century American Catholics. It places their experiences in the historical tradition of what is known as the real presence, the idea that Christ's body and blood are actually there in the communion wafer. The divide between the presence and absence, the literal and the metaphorical, the supernatural and the natural, defines the modern Western world.
